Flowfish are imaginary fish-like creatures I create in acrylic paint using a technique best described as "flow". The process of flow painting and using fluid acrylic to create abstract art has become very popular, and as soon as I tried it I realized why. Creating art in this way is almost opposite from my realism, as I never really know what I'm going to end up with once the paint dries. I have found this form of creating to be very freeing and inspiring, allowing me an entirely new direction that I look forward to exploring.
It begins with a canvas covered in wet white paint that I drip drops of carefully selected color onto. I smear the paint to create shapes that, with a little bit of coaxing, end up forming 5th dimensional creatures unknown to humans until the moment they appear in paint. What results is a completely unique being filled with swirls of color and sparkle that can only be created by the chaotic mixing of paint in its most fluid and uncontrollable state.
